GW Power Co.s’ First Time

You’ve come to the correct place if you’re attempting climbing for the first time or have a box of pitons stashed away in your attic. To keep everyone entertained, we provide a range of climbing choices, exercise courses, and community activities.

Climbing On A Rope

The climbing technique known as top rope climbing involves passing the climbing rope through an anchor at the summit of the route before bringing it back down to the belayer.  This is the most prevalent and user-friendly style of climbing, and what most people think of when they hear the term “rock climbing.” A harness and belay device are required for top-rope climbing.

For any climbing exercise, climbing shoes are also recommended! Rentals are available at the front desk for all of the necessary equipment. Anyone who wishes to belay in one of the gyms must first demonstrate that they can complete our belay exam. The belay tests are offered at no charge and can be carried out whenever a candidate chooses throughout the day.

But don’t let the fact that our climbing gyms don’t have permanent grigris or auto belays get you down! If you didn’t bring anyone with you, just let the front desk know that you won’t have someone to climb with you, and we’ll find you a new climbing partner from within the gym to climb with!

Are You New To Climbing?

If you’ve never climbed before, our Intro to Climbing Class is for you. In this one-hour lesson, you will learn the fundamentals of rope climbing, such as how to attach your harness, tie a figure-8 follow-through knot, and perform safety checks. You will also learn how to use an ATC belay device to belay, catch a fall, and lower your climber back to the ground. After the class, put your new talents to use and climb till you can’t anymore!

This session is for people who have never belayed before or who can’t pass our belay test without help. All participants in the Intro to Climbing Class must be 14 years old or older.

Lead Climbing

Lead climbing is a climbing method in which the climber (also known as the leader) ties onto the climbing rope on the ground rather than using a pre-attached anchor point. As they go up the route, the leader covers their fall by attaching the climbing rope to the hanging drawers. Falls taken on the top rope are often substantially longer. In lead climbing, both the belayer and the leader need to know a lot about the sport.

To lead climb in any of our gyms, you will first need to pass our lead test and then affirm that you will abide by our lead laws. You must bring your rope (35m or longer) and a partner. Our exams are all given on routes 5.10b or above. On the day of the test, you may not have received any instructions. If you want to learn how to lead climb, look no further than our sport climbing clinic tracks.

Bouldering

Bouldering is a type of rock climbing in which no ropes or harnesses are used. All you need to boulder at our gym is a pair of climbing shoes! If this is your first time bouldering, please ask the front desk staff for a brief orientation.

Do you like the style but wish to enhance it? In no time, our bouldering clinics will have you crushing your projects!

Fitness

Our claim to fame is world-class climbing, but we also have fantastic fitness sessions! A subscription includes access to all exercise classes. Not yet a member? Your day pass grants you full access to our exercise center. Some of our classes are very popular and may require you to sign up ahead of time, so it’s usually a good idea to make a reservation.

Kids

Rock climbing is a fun sport for the whole family, and we have routes that are suitable for climbers of varying ages and levels of experience. Remember that belayers should be at least 14 years old, and any minors under 14 must be supervised.
